    Choosing Between Aligners and Braces

When it comes to fixing crooked teeth, you have a few treatment options. The two most common alternatives are braces and aligners. While both may provide excellent outcomes, they each have their own set of methods. While braces may be preferred by one person, aligners may be more intriguing to another. Kimball Orthodontics, for example, has an orthodontist in California that can advise you on the best option. Prior to that discussion, however, the following list of distinctions may help you gain a sense of each piece of equipment.

What Exactly Are Each of Them?

Before you can comprehend how they work, you must first understand what each appliance is made of and how it appears. Braces are made up of brackets that adhere to the teeth and an archwire that goes through the brackets. The archwire applies pressure to the brackets, causing the teeth to shift into their new position. Metal, ceramic, and plastic are all common materials used to make braces.

Aligners, on the other hand, are custom-made, clear, removable plastic devices that realign your teeth. Because they are nearly invisible, no one will know you are wearing them until you tell them. Aligners are typically worn for two weeks before being replaced with the next pair in the series. Your teeth will progressively migrate into position as you progress through the aligner procedure.

    Use Time

Believe it or not, the length of time you should wear each product varies. Braces are normally worn for 12 to 24 months, whereas aligners are typically worn for 6 to 18 months. The actual therapy duration, however, will vary depending on the severity of the condition. Patients with more severe misalignments will, on average, require lengthier treatment periods. Additionally, braces may need to be changed on a regular basis during treatment, which might add a few weeks or months to the entire timetable.

    Routines For Brushing and Eating

Certain meals become harder to eat when wearing braces. Sticky things like caramel can clog or pull your brackets, while hard items might damage the wiring. Clean your teeth thoroughly after eating to ensure that no food particles become trapped in your teeth. Water picks, and other specialized instruments will be required for flossing.

However, with aligners, you may remove the device while eating, so no food is off-limits. You’ll be OK as long as you remember to brush your teeth before replacing them. You can floss on a regular basis while wearing aligners over braces.

How to Choose Which to Use

While aligners appear to be more convenient since they can be removed and worn for a shorter amount of time, braces can be more effective in treating your teeth in some cases. Because they are tightened and readjusted often, they help keep your teeth aligned if you have severe gaps, crowding, or a big bite.

Fortunately, your orthodontist will be able to help you understand each appliance. Kimball Orthodontics is trusted by the people of North Carolina. Their orthodontists are available for consultation at their clinics in Laguna Beach and Laguna Niguel, CA. Whatever appliance you choose to straighten your teeth, you will surely reap the benefits of a straighter grin after using it.
