    Brace Issues That Are Common

Maintaining braces, like our teeth, may be difficult. When the teeth are first fitted, you will be given a set of recommendations to assist you in understanding what you should do to keep them from breaking. However, it is critical to note that many of the problems you may have while wearing braces are really extremely typical. If you do encounter a problem, it is critical that you consult with a specialist. Romani Orthodontics, for example, connects its patients with an orthodontist in Rhode Island to repair their braces.

    Discomfort

We’ve all heard stories about how uncomfortable braces can be, especially when tightened and adjusted. It is, however, not as bad as some make it out to be. While some discomfort is to be expected, it should never be unbearable. Orthodontists frequently advise utilizing pain relievers or oral gels to assist in relieving any stress. If the discomfort becomes unbearable, it is time to see your orthodontist again.

    Brushing and Flossing Techniques

Because of the wires and brackets that are now within your mouth, you must clean your teeth on a more regular basis. Food particles and plaque are more prone to become lodged, so brush three times a day or after each meal. Though flossing is more difficult, water floss picks are available to help.

    Staining

It would help if you avoided certain meals and beverages that might produce stains when caring for braces (such as coffee or soda). If you are not careful, you may get white scars on your teeth after removing your braces. The enamel under the brackets is protected because the brackets cover a tiny square of each tooth. As a result, as you eat certain foods and beverages, the rest of your teeth will discolor, while the square will remain the same color—another incentive to continue cleaning your teeth on a regular basis.

    Brackets and Loose Wires

Whether it’s from the food you eat or through sports contact, wires and brackets can break. However, it would be best if you did not wait until your next planned appointment to get them fixed. If you wait too long, the damaged components may cause your teeth to move back into their incorrect position or cause wounds to your lips and gums. Many orthodontists, such as Romani Orthodontics in Chepachet and Providence, RI, can provide emergency therapy to restore your braces to their original condition.

If you have a broken wire or bracket, use dental wax to keep it in place until you can get to your emergency appointment. Another option for broken wires is to secure them against your teeth until you can have an appointment. Insert the wire using a pencil eraser or similar instrument and cover it with wax to minimize poking and irritation of the soft tissue.

Although braces are a lot of work, they will help you with your teeth and make you feel more confident in your appearance. Not only that but straightening your teeth can help prevent future dental health problems. If you have an issue with your braces, don’t feel terrible. Romani Orthodontics is used to assisting patients with their braces and understands that problems will arise from time to time.
