Misconceptions About Dermatologists in the Philippines

There are several misconceptions about Dermatologists. While a dermatologist can diagnose and treat various skin conditions, many people are skeptical of their value. The disease is a chronic, non-communicable, painful, disfiguring, and life-limiting disease with many symptoms. This disorder’s treatment requires prescriptions targeting the type of skin disease. There are also many myths about dermatologists, including that they are expensive.

    Misconceptions about Dermatologists

There are many common misconceptions about dermatologists in the Philippines. In many areas of the country, people are under the impression that they are not necessary or even a good use of society’s resources.

Are you having trouble with your skin and are looking for the right dermatologist in Makati, or are you thinking of how the best dermatologist in Cebu can help you improve your skincare routine?

There are several significant differences between a dermatologist and an ophthalmologist; understanding the difference will help you find the right dermatologist.

Dermatologists prescribe medications that are targeted to your skin type

A dermatologist specializes in treating skin disorders and cosmetic issues. Skin is the largest organ in the human body and is composed of nerve endings, hair follicles, blood vessels, and pores. Because of this, dermatologists have more experience and knowledge about skin problems than other medical professionals and can treat and prevent these conditions more effectively. In addition to treating skin problems, dermatologists can help diagnose other underlying health conditions, like diabetes or high blood pressure.

    They are not cost-effective

According to a survey, only 30 percent of respondents believe they can afford regular checkups. The government, meanwhile, is busy dealing with the broken public health system and corruption. Over ₱150 billion worth of false claims were submitted to PhilHealth. Despite this, many dermatologists reported that their consultations jumped during the Pandemic. It was estimated that these dermatologists’ fees soared by 70 percent during the Pandemic.

They don’t see as many patients as other types of doctors

The practice of dermatology is unique in several ways. For starters, the specialty is less visible than other specialties. While it’s true that dermatologists don’t see as many patients as different types of doctors, this fact can be an asset. Dermatologists should educate primary care providers about pigmented skin issues and preemptively see patients with them. Another way dermatologists can gain visibility is to create a public relations campaign.
