Have you come across someone who has had a relapse to drug addiction after leaving a drug recovery centre? In some cases, some people relapse after a week of after a few days. Just what is the cause?

This has been a common phenomenon in our society. In this blog, we are going to demystify the reasons why people relapse after leaving an addiction recovery centre.

    Environment

Being in the same environment, you were during the addiction and going back to the same place after treatment is challenging. You find the person surrounded by the same friends they had, meaning that the environment is not supportive of their new habits. This makes someone easily relapse to the old days.

    Mental status

Anxiety, depression, mania, personality disorders or post-traumatic stress can easily make one relapse to drugs easily. This is because addiction is mental and some people get into drugs addiction because of anxiety or a traumatizing experience. Therefore, when their mind is not stable after rehab they can easily go back.

    Support system

Most drug addicts tend to have not so relationships with family, friends, colleagues and the society. Some are even alienated by the society and when they come from rehab centre they tend to lack a “good support” system to stand and support the live a drug free life.

    Lack of self-care

Most drug addicts have poor hygiene, eating habits, lack meditation, poor sleeping habits and exercising. When they lack self – care they tend to fill like the society alienates them and they do not fit. Therefore, they end up relapsing to their old ways.

    Overconfidence

Sobriety after drug addiction is a journey and some tend to be overconfident that they cannot go back to drugs. This makes a person not follow all the recommendations put in place but rather assume they can overcome. This dangerous state make most go back to drugs.

    Isolation

This is another reason that can make someone relapse to addiction because of loneliness and being alone. This is made worse by being idle as idleness makes it easy to go back to drugs.

Lack of a balance in emotions

Sadness and over excitement are some of the emotions that drugs addicts grapple with. In most cases when a drug addict is sad, they tend to go to drugs. When they become sober and lack balance in emotions one can easily go back to drugs

Lack of commitment to post recovery

Supports groups are always important in any recovery journey. When one lacks commitment to the post recovery journey and support, it becomes challenging to stay a sober life and chances of soberness significantly reduce. This is why you need a rehab recovery center, that offer post recovery program and Rise Recovery in Austin is the best rehab centre who offer such service.

    Lack of funds

Some people get into drugs because of lack of finances. This creates hopelessness and the only consolation is drugs. After leaving a drug, treatment centre and having not job or business to run may lead someone to go back to their old ways of taking drugs.

Do you know anyone who has a drug relapse?

If you have a friend, who has a relapse of drugs the best way is to reach out for a drug treatment centre for help before it is too late.
